Project – H&R Hydrazine System Upgrades
Overview – The O’Hare Heating & Refrigeration Plant’s high temp water system uses hydrazine to efficiently eliminate residual oxygen and prevent corrosion. The existing hydrazine feed system was upgraded to allow for a safer and better monitored operation. The project consisted of installing new storage tanks, pumps, gas sensors and high pressure piping. The system is regulated through a series of automated controls that start, run and stop the equipment as needed. The system is also equipped with a series of alarms and emergency shut down capabilities in the event of an emergency.
